Prime opposition Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) parliamentary group leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has flown to neighboring Sri Lanka to meet the party's leader and former president Mohamed Nasheed.
Trusted sources claim MDP parliamentary group leader flew to Lanka sometime in the late afternoon on Monday. Solih would meet, according to sources close to them, with Nasheed later on Monday evening.
The prime opposition party's PG leader has flown to meet with the party's president at a time when rumors claim Ibrahim Mohamed has been favored as the presidential candidate to receive the party's ticket in the upcoming MDP congress.
Though rumors claim as such, Nasheed had earlier won the party's primary and was handed MDP's presidential ticket. However Elections Commission deemed the former president unworthy to contest due to his running convictions.
It has been rumored the main opposition party is aiming to go forth with an eligible candidate for the upcoming elections rather than explore the option of Nasheed getting a window to compete.
Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has not been available to make any official comments regarding these rumors.
