House-arrest lawmaker meets Canadian Ambassador

Prominent lawmaker of south Galolhu constituency Ahmed Mahloof - aligned with opposition - has met with Canadian ambassador to Maldives David McKinnon at the former's residence.

Ahmed Mahloof is under house arrest until the conclusion of his pending trial.

The famous opposition aligned lawmaker had thanked McKinnon for his visit and tweeted he was "thankful for the continuous support from Canada."

"We are 100% sure that it won’t be a free and fair election, but In Sha Allah we will win despite the obstacles we face," Mahloof said in his tweet.

Earlier Mahloof was visited by United States ambassador to both Sri Lanka and Maldives Atul Keshap at the lawmaker's residence.

Mahloof is prosecuted by state for allegedly providing wrong information to a government authority to mislead. The lawmaker awaits his trial's final hearing.
