Pres Yameen's indirect jab at MDP's presidential candidate

President of Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom said on Tuesday the cabinet ministers and parliament members during former president Mohamed Nasheed's administration, who acted outside any legal boundaries must be held accountable for the said actions.

While the incumbent president had not made any direct connections of his pillories to the parliamentary group leader of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, it was clear his verbal attacks were directed at the new opposition nominated presidential candidate.

Addressing the public of Shaviyani atoll Milandhoo when president Yameen visited on Tuesday morning to inaugurate the island's sewerage system, he said former president Mohamed Nasheed had violated the constitutional rule of law when he was tasked with the responsibility of running the nation.

President Abdulla Yameen had lambasted the now self-exiled president for misusing the local judiciary to impede personal motives. Nasheed was also criticized for the apparent jailing of sitting judges, as well as 'locking down' Maldives apex-court.

Yameen also criticized Nasheed for pushing for a secular governance and for entertaining the possibility of allowing a multi-religion culture to the Islamic island nation.

According to president Yameen, these mentioned philosophies have stayed etched in the leading opposition party's leadership unchanged to this date.

The Maldives head of state also criticized his opposing party for following the instructions of a singular member of a political party. His pillories were directed at MDP's leadership which the ruling party accuse has a 'cult-like following.'

In his speech to Milandhoo's public, president Yameen said he upholds the disperse ideologies among his cabinet ministers and party members when attempting to derive for a beneficial outcome whether it on policy level.

President Yameen stressed that he accepted ideas or opinions given by party members while deciding the future of the administration and its governance over the country.
