A Noonu atoll Maalhendhoo youth has passed away in a freak accident after getting 'stabbed' in the neck by a cornetfish.
The deceased has been identified as one Ahmed Haleem, aged 29, Kunnaaruge, N. Maalhendhoo. He died while attempting to catch sea-cucumbers.
A resident of Maalhedhoo reported Haleem was immediately brought to the island's health center after he was attacked by a cornetfish. He was then transported to Maldives capital, Male' city under emergency.
Haleem was admitted at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) around 02:30hrs of Sunday morning.
An IGMH official confirmed the victim had already died when he was brought to the hospital, according to the doctors who checked him.
While a local has passed away in a freak accident by getting 'stabbed' in the neck by a cornetfish a similar incident took place back in April when another local swimmer was attacked to his chest by a cornetfish.
