More than 3,000 forms have been issued for 'Hiya Accomplished' project, the largest ever housing or sheltering initiative by a Maldives government; announced by incumbent president Abdulla Yameeen.
Housing Ministry's media consultant Ahmed Fazaal has confirmed the update to Avas Online on Sunday, and added that form submission will commence on Wednesday.
"We are attempting to provide the opportunity according to president Yameen's pledge to provide housing for as many Maldivians as possible, and we are targeting as many citizens as possible. The [Housing] ministry will do its best to grant that opportunity to interested people from public," Fazaal noted.
President Abdulla Yameen announced a mega housing projected dubbed 'Hiya Accomplished' with 82,000 flats expected for construction.
The project also consists of reclaiming 230 hectares of land from Gulhifalhu lagoon and another 800 hectares from Fushidhiggaru lagoon. A total of 1,000 hectare of land is expected for reclamation under the 'Hiya Accomplished' project.
Registrants will be subjected to a 3 room apartment or a 1,000 square feet land plot targeted at a population of 300,000.
Conditions for application include individuals without the possession of a land plot or house exceeding 1,000 square feet from any parts of Maldives or should they possess a land they must be willing to relinquish ownership to government.
