Coastguard on Tuesday launched an initiative to carry out safety checks on passenger vessels ahead of the upcoming Eid holidays.
Scores of people are expected to travel to the islands ahead of the long Eid holidays next week.
Coastguard spokesperson said teams have been deployed to check safety measures on marine vessels especially the ones carrying passengers.
Coastguard has urged vessel operators to ensure that all safety measures are in place before heading out to sea.
The archipelago is presently experiencing heavy rains but the meteorology department expects the weather to clear by the Eid holidays.
