President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on Wednesday claimed that by December 2018, 51 new resort destinations will be open for business - spanning the projects for the recent five year period.
Addressing the people of Thaa atoll Madifushi, president Yameen confirmed 30 new resorts have opened under his administration so far with 21 new resort destinations slated for opening within this year.
"More than 70% of all work on these 21 resorts are done now. During the recent five years the number of new resort projects have been comparatively higher than any other period," President Abdulla Yameen noted.
The island nation's head of state also stressed about the biggest resort project ever carried out in Maldives, highlighting the first ever integrated resort project at Emboodhoo lagoon kicked off under his administration.
The integrated resort project is developed by Singha Estate, the second largest firm from Thailand specializing in construction and resort development.
President Abdulla Yameen also pointed at Cheval Blanc Randheli Resort, developed at Noonu atoll, which was acquired by a Saudi billionaire; making it the largest resort acquisition in Maldivian tourism history.
