Maldives president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has hinted of another airport development plan in Noonu atoll if elected for a second term.
The Maldives head of state hinted on such a future prospect while addressing the public of Noonu atoll Velidhoo.
President Yameen pointed at an uninhabited island near Velidhoo, named 'Vihafaru' stating that if elected for a second term he would like to experience stepping down on the said island after a plane trip; hinting on the possibility of another airport development.
However, president Yameen did not make any clear announcements of it.
The island of Vihafaru lies five minutes away from Velidhoo by speedboat. Surrounded by a vast lagoon, the sandbank can become a future airport for the atoll if president Yameen according to his hints plan to go forward with the concept.
