A traffic police officer chased and nabbed a knife wielding suspect in the capital Male late Tuesday.
The office now being hailed for his bravery chased down the suspect after he fled from a scene of the crime around 9pm in Maafannu ward.
A video shot by a bystander shows the officer tackling the suspect to the ground as another bystander rushes to aid the officer where they manage to overpower the suspect.
The video shows the suspect still holding the knife that had been used in a stabbing attack moments earlier.
The video had now been widely shared on social networking sites as many lauded the heroics of the brave officer.
Recent hike in violent altercations and stabbings in Male' City have left the citizens concerned, while Maldives president Abdulla Yameen associated the increase of stabbings with the crunch presidential elections; hinting these individuals are provoked for violence to create fear and unrest.
