Prominent ruling party lawmaker shuns well known cleric

Locally renowned religious scholar Sheikh Ilyas Hussain's heavy criticism on current government led by Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has met with similar reciprocation by the party's parliamentary group leader Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik.

The prominent lawmaker shunned the religious cleric on Facebook criticizing the Sheikh was constantly contradicting his own statements; labeling the religious cleric as a 'two lipped' preacher.

MP Nihan had also shared a video on the popular social media with a montage of videos in which the renowned cleric had on multiple occasions lambasted the now self-exiled former president Mohamed Nasheed.

Sheikh Ilyas Hussain on Saturday evening claimed his conscience 'forced' him to finally raise voice against the continued injustice of the incumbent president and his administration.

The sheikh had also shunned the ruling party and state aligned politicians for their continued advocacy towards religious preservation yet constantly ridiculing the Islamic laws and practice.
