Maldives Police have apprehended two local girls for their involvement in assaulting a lone girl - the video of the assault having gone viral on social media platforms.

Authorities confirmed they have apprehended two local girls; one aged 18 and a minor aged 17 over the now viral video.

Although police have both apparent bullies in their custody they refused to divulge any information regarding the exact identities of the girls.

The bully victim has since been identified as Nashfa Hassan, 15, Aabaadhu-vaadhee, Gaaf Dhaal Thinadhoo. She went missing some days earlier, but had turned in at Family and Child Protection Department (FCPD).

The now video which went viral on August 24, showed three girls physically assaulting a lone girl; constantly slapping her face while verbally berating her.

The incident attracted loud and harsh criticism from Maldives public while many urged authorities to bring in the culprits for questioning.

Authority investigation further revealed that though the video vent viral last month, the actual incident was recorded back in May 2018.

Maldives Police Service confirmed they were looking into the matter.
