Stabbing spree continues as another man knifed in capital

A young man was stabbed in capital Male late Monday as the recent spate of knife attacks in the greater Male region continued.

A group had attacked a man in Henveiru ward where he was stabbed in the chest and neck. Bystanders had reportedly rushed the man to the privately-run ADK hospital.

A hospital official said the victim had not suffered serious injuries and has since been released from hospital.

Police were not immediately available for comment.

The latest incident came after an 18 year old was stabbed to death in the capital late Friday.

Ibrahim Aagil, 18 was stabbed to death near the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) building on Friday evening. He was rushed to privately-run ADK hospital after the attack but was pronounced dead shortly after.

Hospital said the victim had suffered fatal stab injuries to the neck.

Police had announced a manhunt for 18 year old Hamdhoon Hamzath more than 48 hours after the murder.

The suspect had turned himself in on Monday evening and has since been arrested, police confirmed.

Police said a special operation has been launched into the latest of a series of stabbing attacks in the greater Male region.
