Maldives beats Nepal, secures SAFF Suzuki Cup final

Maldives national football squad has secured the finals of SAFF Suzuki Cup after managing victory against Nepal by 3-0 in their last game.

This marks the fifth time Maldives managed to advance to the finals of the football tournament with the last time being 2009.

Maldives lost the championship title in 2009 after losing to India in penalty shootouts.

This also marks national team coach Peter Sheggart's second entry into the SAFF Suzuki Cup finals, his first being Afghanistan.

Maldives vs. Nepal proved difficult for players on pitch due to heavy rain and thunder. The game was temporarily halted by the match commissioner due to the bad weather condition, and was resumed after 25 minutes.

While Maldives have secured their spot in the finals, the opponents will be guaranteed after India vs. Pakistan game.
