Remand extensions on Kolamaafushi unrest suspects

Remands have been extended for the 18 suspects arrested from Gaaf Alif Kolamaafushi on allegation of damaging Progressive Party of Maldives' (PPM) party camp and equipment inside the premises.

All 18 suspects are charged with terrorism and from the lot 17 have been given a remand extension of 15 days while 12 days were added to the remand of one; this is their second remand extension.

On Friday's hearing at Gaaf Alif Vilingili magistrate court, the suspects were represented by 18 lawyers who traveled to the island earlier for the purpose.

Due to laws of Criminal Procedure Act, lawyers cannot represent more than one client prosecuted for the same offense.
