Police searches ex-VP's lawyer Moosa Siraj's apartment

Maldives Police have searched the residential apartment of lawyer Moosa Siraj, who is notable for representing the now incarcerated former vice president Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor.

Local authorities arrested the advocate after he publicized statements by Adeeb that incriminates incumbent president Abdulla Yameen. Police claims Siraj was detained for questioning over the probe into the issue.

Police gained access into Siraj's apartment on Friday morning via court order that cites acquiring possible evidence related to the investigation the lawyer was attached to.

A close acquaintance of advocate Siraj noted that police had inspected the apartment in his presence and collected a hard-drive, a USD flash drive and a few printed documents; which were confiscated.

Court order on Siraj's arrest cited the advocated had publicized baseless allegations while he is also alleged with creating documents with indecent content.

Apart from representing the former vice-president, Siraj is also the advocate defending the now jailed son-in-law of former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoo; Ahmed Nadheem.
