Privatization board has sacked the head of the state companies nearly a week after the inauguration of Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as the archipelago's seventh president.

The board had removed Managing Directors and Chairmen of a total 11 state companies which included State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), Island Aviation Services, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and Dhiraagu.

Heads of some state companies had resigned shortly after Solih had pulled off a stunning victory in September's presidential elections.

A good clear out is required a bit everywhere. Police, army, justice and MMA also need people of high integrity. We must change for the better and allow young people to work. There are also too many foreigners in most top companies and we must give more opportunities to our qualified locals.
