An expatriate worker died Thursday after being hit by an excavator in Gaaf Alif Atoll Kanduhulhudhoo island.
According to the island council, the Indian national who was employed in the harbour project being carried out the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) was struck by the excavator around 8.45am on Thursday.
The man did not appear to have suffered serious injuries but died less than an hour later while being treated at the island's health centre, council president Ahmed Shaheem told AVAS.
"It appears he may have suffered internal injuries in the accident," Shaheem said.
MTCC along with the health centre is expected to transport the body to the capital Male later Thursday, he added.
