Maldives home minister meets Malaysia's Anwar

Maldives home minister Sheikh Imran Abdulla on Monday met with Malaysia's ruling party leader Anwar Ibrahim.

According to the religiously conservative Adhaalath Party (AP), Imran met with Anwar during his ongoing visit to Malaysia where the duo had discussed the democratic challenges facing Islam.

Malaysia’s former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim, who was jailed for sodomy was freed from prison after receiving a royal pardon in May last year.

Anwar’s release was the first big success of the newly elected governing coalition, Pakatan Harapan, led by 92-year-old Mahathir Mohamad, which was swept into power after a shock election victory a week earlier.
