Maldivian Embassy in Malaysia has informed that foreign driving licenses, including those issued in Maldives, can no longer be converted to a Malaysian driving license.

A statement released by the embassy said that the Malaysian Transport Ministry has temporarily ceased accepting internationally-issued driving licenses in order to restructure the guidelines of the Ministry. The ban is not specific to Maldives, but applicable on all licenses issued outside of Malaysia and Singapore.

The Maldivian Embassy in Malaysia is currently working with relevant authorities to seek a solution to the difficulties faced by the large number of Maldivians residing in Malaysia due to the ban. Alternatively, Maldivian residents in Malaysia are advised to apply for a Malaysian driving license via authorized driving schools in the country based on existing procedures. Those possessing International Driving Permit have been requested to conform to the changes brought to driving regulations.
