Pres Solih's assets: MVR1.5mln earned in six months, no debts

The financial statements of top government officials publicized by the President's Office has revealed that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih made an income of MVR 1.5 million in the six months before being appointed as President.

The President, who was a member of the parliament for 25 consecutive years before moving on to presidency, received the amount in salaries.

The President has no debts, and owns a property in Lhaviyani Atoll Hinnavaru island, his birth island.

Vice President Faisal Naseem received MVR1.7 million in salaries in six months, and has no debts. He owns a property worth MVR10 million in birth island, Fuvahmulah and two flats in Hulhumale' worth MVR6.2 million. He also has a four-wheeled vehicle worth MVR 500,000 and a motorcycle worth MVR 270,000 to his name, according to his asset declaration.

Financial statements of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Vice President Faisal Naseem and all cabinet ministers were revealed, in line with the government's commitment to eliminate corruption. Declaration of assets and income of government officials was an electoral pledge of President Solih.

The pledge states that the administration will disclose and regularly review financial statements of all senior political appointees at all ministries, state institutions, and state companies.

This is the first time a government has voluntarily disclosed the financial status of its senior members in Maldivian history. In the upcoming days, the statements of all political appointees of the current government will also be publicized, which will be updated on the President's Office website annually.
