A man attempting to smuggle drugs into Maafushi Jail has been nabbed in a special operation executed by the police.
The police informed that the man was caught by Maafushi police on Saturday morning, after Maafushi Jail tipped them off that substances suspected to be drugs were in the possession of a man visiting a prisoner for a family visit.
Three cellophane packets and four rubber packets of various sizes containing substances suspected to be drugs were found on the man, 27, when inspected by the police after he was taken into police custody.
The man was remanded 13 days by the Maafushi Magistrate Court.
The Maafushi Police Station is investigating the case further.
