Maldives was greatly cast aside by the international community when the new government took over administration, said President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Monday.
Speaking to Maldivian residents living in United Arab Emirates, President Solih said the foreign policy of the Maldives is to strengthen and maintain ties with all countries that conform to international treaties and agreements, who encourage justice and fairness. Friendship will be maintained with all countries based on mutual respect.
The President noted that the UAE government considers Maldives a close ally, and added that the UAE government's decision to grant 30 day on-arrival visa to Maldivians attests to the brotherhood that exists between both countries. The government is making efforts to extend the ease for Maldivian travelers in other Gulf countries, informed the President.
President Solih is making the visit to UAE at the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of Armed Forces of the UAE, to attend the Zayed Sustainability Awards Ceremony and the Inauguration of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
