Night flight operations commenced at Thimarafushi airport

National carrier has begun operating flights at night to Thimarafushi Regional Airport.

"Maldivian" commenced flights to the island with a population of over 3000 people, at a ceremony held at the airport on Tuesday night. A lit-up plane carrying MP for Kinbidhoo constituency, Abdulla Riyaz, who will be contesting for the Thimarafushi constituency in the upcoming parliamentary elections and some cabinet ministers landed at Thimarafushi Airport to commemorate the landings.

Currently, four weekly flights are operated to the airport.

The development of Thimarafushi Airport was initiated by former president, Mohamed Nasheed. The airport was inaugurated in 2013 during President Mohamed Waheed's administration.

Built on a project value of MVR 32 million by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Thimarafushi Regional Airport boasts a 1200m long, 30m wide runway.
