Commissioner of Election, Ahmed Shareef has stated on Monday that the Political Party Act is need of reform.
Speaking at the function held to inaugurate the new logo and color of the Elections Commission (EC), Shareef said the responsibilities mandated upon the commission by the constitution is massive, and the burden of regulating political parties and remarking on
the necessary issues is on the commission.
Shareef noted that the current political situation of the country calls for a major reform of the Political Party Act and other relevant regulations. He has confidence that the newly elected parliament will play a major role in bringing the necessary changes, added the commissioner.
The commission is currently facing budgetary constraints although all other preparations for the parliamentary election are now complete, said Shareef. He called for the assistance and cooperation of all government entities in conducting a free, fair and transparent election.
