Home Minister vows to protect Islam at any cost

Home Minister, Sheikh Imran Abdulla stated on Tuesday that he is prepared to take necessary action to protect and uphold the Islamic faith in the Maldives.

Imran's statement comes at a time when the expression of anti-Islamic sentiments and blasphemy are on the rise.

Imran assured that he has no hesitation to make any sacrifice and take any action necessary to ensure the protection of the Maldivian people.

Home Minister Imran Abdulla who is also the leader of religiously conservative Adhaalath Party has been receiving public criticism due to lack of action taken against those who mock Islam. However the police are currently actively investigating the recent hate speech incidents, while the Islamic Ministry has also announced a no-tolerance strategy against those who spread blasphemy.
