Home Minister urges peaceful campaigning amidst clashes

Home Minister and Adaalath Party President Imran Abdulla has urged not to obstruct campaign activities of presidential candidates. The minister's appeal comes while strong clashes took place between PPM and main-ruling MDP supporters in K. Guraidhoo to coincide with the PPM-PNC presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu Muizzu's campaign visit to the island.

Taking to Twitter to express his concern, the Home Minister said one should not deviate from the rules of civilized societies in campaigning or expressing support for a candidate. He urged against obstructing campaigns and promoting violence, stressing that such activities are unacceptable.

Minister Imran had earlier warned the opposition against disrupting President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's island visits for campaign purposes. At a campaign rally held at M. Dhiggaru on August 16th, the minister said he would not allow the opposition to destroy peace and order under the guise of political activities.

Opposition supporters have consistently obstructed President Solih's campaign activities on various islands, leading to some arrests.
