Rights watchdog to probe death of elderly man under state care

Human Rights Commission of Maldives is probing the death of an 85-year old man who passed away while being treated at state-run hospital Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The elderly man was under the care of Gender Ministry at the time of his death.

The Gender Ministry revealed that the man, who had a pre-existing lung and heart condition, passed away of natural causes. The man was taken under state care as he had no family to take care of him or provide the necessary medical attention.

No other details regarding the case has been revealed by either party.
