Foreign Minister, Abdulla Shahid has stated that the world has started accepting Maldives again after being segregated by the international community for a number of years.
Shahid made the statement on Wednesday in a Tweet posted following his return from official visits to UAE, USA and UK.
In his Tweet, Shahid noted that the Maldivian archipelago is now well received by the international community after having been isolated for the past five years. The countries are prepared to assist the Maldives in realising President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's manifesto, noted Shahid.
During his visit to the United Kingdom, Minister Shahid made an address at the 29th Governing Council Meeting of Communities of Democracy. He shed light on the challenges faced by the country in maintaining a democracy in the Maldives.
He also met with the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Patricia Scotland, and requested to expedite the process of Maldives rejoining the Commonwealth.
