51 accidents in the span of a week

Maldives Police Service (MPS) have revealed that 51 road accidents occurred between February 23 and March 1.

According to the statistics released by Traffic Police last week, 1341 vehicles were stopped for traffic offenses, out of which 258 vehicles were being driven by unlicensed drivers. Five under-age individuals were caught driving. Five individuals were stopped for speeding.

17 cars and motorcycles were towed for various reasons while 127 vehicles were fined for parking violations. 70 drivers who used their mobile devices while driving were also stopped, while one individual was stopped for not adhering to the regulations set for carrying infants on motorbikes.

Action was taken against five individuals for overtaking illegally while 168 individuals using expired licenses were also stoped by the Traffic Police.

The amount of road accidents occurring in capital Male' has been increasing with the opening of the Sinamale' bridge and the ring road.
