Ex-pres denies being food poisoned, confirms NIC

National Integrity Commission (NIC) has stated that former president Yameen Abdul Gayyoom has denied being food poisoned.

Yameen's family claimed to media that he was food poisoned after he was hospitalized a third time since his detainment for the remainder of his money laundering trial.

NIC immediately met with president Yameen after reports of food poisoning were publicized, who confirmed to the commission that he was neither food poisoned nor had he sought any treatment for such a condition.

The former president said he has no complaints against Maldives Correctional Service, said NIC in a statement released on Friday night.

In their statement, NIC advised against spreading rumors that would reflect negatively on institutions such as Maldives Correctional Service.
