Main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has endorsed two candidate representing religiously conservative Adhaalath Party in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The two parties have teamed up to face the 2019 parliamentary election together, in order to secure the most number of seats for the ruling coalition. MDP on Monday withdrew the candidacy of their Mahibadhoo constituency contestant in order to endorse the AP candidate.
MDP revealed that they will also be endorsing the AP candidate for Nilandhoo constituency, a constituency for which MDP has not fielded a candidate.
MDP's decision has prompted AP to back four candidates representing MDP. Leader of AP Imran Abdulla participated in a campaign event of MDP on Sunday night.
AP is endorsing MDP candidates for Hoarafushi, Alifushi, Kendhikulhudhoo and Fares Maathoda constituency.
