Maldives pres promises housing for all Male' citizens

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed that a large housing project that would ensure housing for the residents of capital Male' city will be announced soon.

The President made the announcement while addressing at two different campaign events of two MDP contestants for the parliamentary election.

While the president shared that the project would be officially announced soon, he did not divulge further details regarding the project. However, he stated that by the end of his presidency there would not be any citizen who does not have their own housing.

The president had earlier announced during his first presidential address a housing project that would build 400 housing units in reclaimed suburbs Hulhumale'.

President Solih noted that Male' city has become an undesirable location to live in, with less than adequate living conditions and traffic issues. He reminded that resolving these issues was a presidential pledge.

Speaking on Monday night, the president promised to ensure that Male' city is an attractive city to live in and is currently working towards it. The president noted that efforts to re-locate the commercial harbor in Male city to industrial Thilafushi island.

"This would result in a complete transformation of the city. This is something we will achieve within these five years", said President Solih.
