Govt in discussion with Thailand to facilitate liberal visa policies

The Republic of Maldives is in discussion with Thailand to arrange more liberal visa facilities for Maldivians traveling to Thailand.

Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid conducted sideline discussions with Thai delegates at the second high-level meeting of South-South Corporation at Buenos Aires in Argentina. Ways in which the bi-lateral relations between both countries can be strengthened were discussed at the meeting.

Minister Shahid noted that Thailand is a important country for Maldivian businesses, while Maldives is host to several Thai investments. In a tweet published by the Minister, he revealed that discussions on formalizing a visa waiver arrangement between the two countries took place during the meeting.

After President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih took office in November, liberal visa arrangements have been made with neighboring India. The government is also in discussion with Malaysian government regarding visa issues.
