A special center focusing on mental health has been established at state-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in capital Male'.
The establishment of a specialized center for mental health and providing Aasandha insurance services for mental helth treatment are among President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's targets to be achieved within the first 100 days of administration.
The center was inaugurated on Monday morning by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and first lady Fazna Ahmed, a strong advocate for mental health issues.
IGMH revealed that inpatient and outpatient services will be available through the center, and diagnostic facilities as well as counseling and therapy services will be provided. Awareness programs on mental health will also be conducted by the center.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Solih acknowledged the struggles of those with mental illnesses. The establishment of the mental health center would provide a lot of ease for the patients, and the services provided by the center will be expanded in the future, said the President.
