The government has lightened the sentences of 200 convicts currently serving out their sentences in jail.
Inmates displaying good behavior while having already served out a quarter of their sentence were granted conditional pardons and transferred to home arrest. They are conditioned to complete a rehabilitation program.
All inmates whose sentences were lightened were convicted on minor offenses under the new penal code.
