Police reveal location where 149kg of drugs were buried

The police have revealed the location where 149kg of hidden drugs were buried.

The drugs smuggled in through the sea route were discovered by the police in uninhabited island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll, Hulhuvaarudhu. The island lies near Gaaf Dhaal Maavarulu, where an airport is currently being built.

The seized drugs include well-sealed packets of cannabis and heroin.

While five people have been arrested in connection to the case, the police have revealed that out of the 149kg of drugs that were discovered, 100kg attributed to heroin, and the remaining 49kg was of cannabis. The street value of these drugs are over MVR 240 million .

The announcement of the successful operation executed by Upper South Division and Drug Enforcement Department, jointly with Police Intelligence was revealed by the Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed on Monday night at a dinner night held in Gaaf Dhaal Thinadhoo to mark the 86th anniversary of the police. CP Hameed stated that the operation had lasted for 72 hours.
