Police arrest 37 people in major drug bust

37 people have been arrested after searching two homes in a drug bust.

The police revealed that they searched two homes suspected of being drug trade hubs under a court order in capital Male’ on Monday. The two homes are Pelican and Memory Villa, both of which are situated in Galolhu ward.

While 11 men aged between 19 and 42, a woman aged 21 and two minors aged 17 were arrested from G. Pelican, 24 men aged between 19 and 42 were arrested from G. Memory Villa.

The two minors are being held under house arrest while the remaining individuals were remanded three days into custody by the court.

During the operation, 18 rubber packets of what is suspected to be drugs were discovered. Both residences had electrical and mechanical locks on the door to prevent police access, and had facilities available for the trade and use of drugs. Both homes are notorious for including women and children in drug use, the police added.
