MP Hisaan appointed as JSC member

MP for Thulhaadhoo constituency, Hisaan Hussain has been appointed as a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

Hisaan took her oath at a ceremony held at the Resident’s Office on Monday, which was administered by Supreme Court Judge Abdulla Areef. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih presented her letter of appointment after the oath-taking.

The Parliament approved to appoint Hisaan as the MP who would represent the parliament on the commission last Wednesday.

Hisaan, who erned her Masters in Law from the United Kingdom first worked at the Attorney General’s Office. She was then appointed as the Legal Affairs Minster during the presidency of former President Mohamed Nasheed. During the rule of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, Hisaan represented several jailed high-profile politicians as their attorney.

The Judicial Service Commission is comprised of ten members, including the Speaker and a representative from the parliament. The commission additionally consists of a Judge of the Supreme Court, a Judge of the High Court, a Judge of the Lower Courts, a member of the general public, the President of the Civil Service Commission, a person appointed by the President, the Attorney General and a lawyer elected from among the lawyers licensed to practice in the Maldives.
