Two arrested with 3 kgs of drugs released

Criminal Court on Tuesday released two people who were arrested the previous day with three kilograms of drugs.

The police revealed that a household in reclaimed suburbs Hulhumale' was searched under a court order on Monday night and two people discovered with drugs during the search were arrested. However, the suspects were released by the Criminal Court when presented at the courthouse to decide on their remand period, said the police.

While a 52 year old woman was among the two arrested, both were arrested on suspicions of drug trade. The two individuals were released under Article 12 of the Criminal Procedural Laws, which necessitates for all pages of the court order to have the approving judge's name, signature an stamp. However, the court order issued on the request of the police had the necessary signatures and stamp on the last page of the document only, resulting in the release of the suspects.
