Suspect carrying drugs who jumped overboard from a ferry traveling to Ga. Kanduhulhudhoo in an attempt to flee from the police has been found hiding out in Maavarulu island.
The police said the man was found empty-handed in the uninhabited island near Kanduhulhudhoo around 9:00 am on Monday. The man has now been taken into police custody.
The man attempted to escape the police when he became aware that the police were at his destination ready to apprehend him upon his arrival. Three civilians went after him in a small dinghy vessel, which capsized shortly afterwards. While one man swam to safety to Maavarulu island, the second man climbed aboard a nearby 'dhoni'. The third man was found drifting at sea.
