Single-session schools to begin day after Fajr prayers


Education Minister on Monday stated that single-session schools will begin the school day after Fajr prayers.

Speaking on TVM "Raajje Miadhu" program, Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali stated that once the single-sessions are introduced to the schools, the students will begin the school-day after Fajr prayers by participating in various physical exercises and activities, after which they will return home and come back to school after freshening up to begin their academic work.

"Once single-sessions are introduced to the schools, the school day will begin after Fajr prayers. The students will take part in various sports and exercises and then return home to get ready for school. They will have breakfast at school, and then the academic work for the day will commence", said the Minister.

On Tuesday, the single-session concept was introduced to 22 schools across Maldives under a pilot program. While the program has been implemented in 20 schools in the atolls, it is also being implemented in two schools in two school in the Male' region: Muhiyyuddeen School in VilliMale' and Huravee School in Hulhumale'.

The Minister stated that the purpose of introducing single-sessions is for the provision of a well-rounded holistic education to the students of Maldives and to establish the necessary resources in the schools, in addition to preparing the children to face the world.

"The purpose of providing a holistic education is to teach the students how to interact with others and to produce skillful, intellectual, spiritual and healthy students", the Minister added.

The biggest benefit of the single-session program is the opportunity for both students ad teachers to go home after the school session and spend the remaining part of the day with their families, she added.

The Minister also noted that the views and opinions of parents, teachers and concerned authorities and entities will be taken into account when continuing the program after the conclusion of the pilot project.

The School Breakfast Program was also implemented across all public schools in Maldives on Tuesday.
