Supreme Court of Maldives has issued an order to hold former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb's passport.
While the order was issued late Monday, Adeeb is current abroad in neighboring India seeking medical treatment.
The order was issued when the state appealed to overturn the jail sentence handed to Adeeb over graft allegations at the Supreme Court. The court ordered Maldives Immigration to withhold Adeeb's passport until the court makes a decision on the case.
Adeeb was sentenced in 2016 to eight years in jail after he was implicated in the MMPRC graft scandal, where US$ 5 million which was to be received as acquisition cost for Lh. Maabinhura was embezzled.
