Supreme Court Justice Abdulla Didi on Thursday departed abroad amid judicial probe.
The top court justice is seeking medical treatment abroad while police investigations into alleged criminal activity involving the judge are ongoing. The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is also probing disciplinary cases against the judge.
It has been reported that Judge Didi traveled to Malaysia for treatment where his family currently resides.
JSC is looking into accusations that Abdulla Didi was bribed by a suspect involved in the MMPRC embezzlement to issue a specific ruling.
In the open investigative meeting held by the commission last week, Didi was granted a period of five days to respond to the allegations made against him. While the deadline expired on Thursday, JSC confirmed in a tweet that Didi's response has been received in writing by the commission. No further details were revealed.
Justice Didi is also accused of releasing two suspects involved in the abduction of missing Minivan News journalist Ahmed Rilwan after being in contact with a person referred to as 'Suspect number 1', the police had informed JSC.
