'Will safeguard country's independence in establishing ties with foreign nations'

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the government would prioritize the development of the country in establishing deeper ties with friendly nations and well-wishers of the Maldives.

The President's Office revealed that the President made the remark while meeting with the Maldivian community residing in Singapore. The President and First Lady are currently on a State visit to Singapore on the invitation of the President of Singapore Halimah Yacob.

The President also assured that the government would ensure the independence and sovereignty of Maldives would be safeguarded in establishing such links.

Stating that he has been working towards establishing and further strengthening bilateral ties with the international community since he assumed presidency, the president expressed hope that the Maldivian students in Singapore would contribute to the development of the Maldive.

The governments of Maldives and Singapore will be signing two MOUs to strengthen the existing bilateral ties and reinvigorate the cooperation between the two countries during the President's trip.
