Govt seeks support for Maldives’ bid to host IOIG 2023

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, accompanied by Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof has departed on an official visit to Mahe’, Seychelles to seek support for the Maldives’ bid to host the Indian Ocean Island Games 2023.

Minister Shahid spoke to the media ahead of their departure and revealed that if IOIG is held in the Maldives, it would become the biggest festival of its kind to take place in Maldives. He further stated that IOIG is special for the Maldives as it is the first international sports event in which Maldives took part, and where Maldives first won a medal back in 1979.

The Minister further noted that the government is seeking to host the IOIG in the Maldives as the infrastructure built for such events will help the youth for years.

During his visit, Minister Shahid will call on H.E Danny Faure, President of the Republic of Seychelles, and deliver a letter from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The Foreign Minister will also hold meetings with his counterparts at the Seychelles' Ministry of Foreign Affairs along with other high level Seychelles government officials.
