Elections Commission has revealed that the votes received by former MP Anaaraa Naeem and lawyer Abdul Maniu Hussain in Saturday's Bar Council election will be recounted due to the difference of one vote between the two.
Anaara Naeeem was elected for the executive committee of the Bar Council with 343 votes, while Maaniu received 342 votes. Out of the six elected committee members, Anaaraa received the least number of votes.
The most number of votes were received by Mohamed Faisal with 631 votes with former Prosecutor General Ahmed Muizzu following close behind with 627 votes. Former judge Aisha Sujun was elected with 445 votes while Secretary General of Maldivian Democratic Party, Anas Abdul Sattar received 261 votes. Mohamed Aseel Hassan received 356 votes.
955 voters cast their vote in the first election held under the recently ratified Legal Professions Act. 1488 lawyers were eligible to vote in the election.
While former Attorney General Husnu Al Suood contested with renowned lawyer Maumoon Hameed for the post of President of the committee, Maumoon Hameed was elected for the position. Former Attorney General Abdulla Muizzu secured the Vice President position after competing against former civil court judge Mohamed Haleem.
