Result remains unchanged after Bar Council vote recount

The result of the recent Bar Council Executive Committee election remains unchanged after the Election's Commission EC recounted votes.

EC on Sunday said the votes received by former Makunudhoo MP Anaara Naeem and lawyer Maniu Hussain will be recounted due to the difference of a single vote between the votes received by both contestants.

During Friday' election, Anaaraa was elected as the sixth member of the Executive Council, receiving the least number of votes out of the six elected members with 343 votes. While Maniu lost to Anaaraa due to the difference of a single vote, he received 342 votes.

However, Anaaraa remains the elected member after the recount, confirmed EC.

While 1488 people were eligible to vote, 955 lawyers voted in Friday's election.

Maumoon Hameed was elected as the President of the Committee, with former Attorney General Abdulla Muizz was elected as the Vice President. Mohamed Faisal, former Prosecutor General Ahmed Muizz, former judge Aisha Sujun, Maldivian Democratic Party's Secretary General Secretary Anas Abdul Sattar and Mohamed Aseel Hassan were elected as the committee members along with Anaaraa Naeem.
