The Visa exemption agreement between Maldives and the Russian Federation has come into effect.
Foreign Ministry revealed that as per the agreement concluded on 25 June 2019 between the Government of the Maldives and the Government of the Russian Federation, Maldivians travelling to the Russian Federation will be exempted from visa requirements and receive 90 days on-arrival visa. The same exemption will be extended to Russian nationals traveling to Maldives.
Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid signed the agreement on behalf of the Maldivian government, and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov signed the agreement on behalf of the Russian government last month.
The visa-exemption agreement was reached in an effort to strengthen bilateral relations between both countries, and to increase the amount of fish products important to Russia, in addition to developing the tourism sector.
