Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is probing a complaint filed against Criminal Court Chief Judge Ahmed Hailam.

The judicial watchdog made the decision to investigate a complaint filed against the judge during it's Wednesday's sitting. Newly appointed JSC member Abdu lManiu Hussain took part in the sitting headed by the President of JSC, Judge Abdulla Areef.

While Chief Judge Hailam, who presides over former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom's money laundering trial is facing an abrupt investigation, a report was recently prepared by a JSC committee and submitted to the parliament over the delays in court proceedings of criminal cases. A lot of criticism is being aimed at judge Hailam due to the findings of the report.

In their report, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) stated that judge Ahmed Hailam attended to relatively less criminal cases compared to other judges at the Criminal Court.

The report listed the number of case being handled by individual judges, which revealed that judge Ahmed Hailam is presiding over six cases only, whereas the remaining judges have been assigned over twenty cases each.
