India's independence day celebrations held at Embassy in Maldives

The Indian High Commission in Maldives on Thursday celebrated India's 73rd Independence Day.

Indian Ambassador to Maldives Shri Sunjay Sudhir hoisted the Indian flag at the embassy during the function. Speaking at the ceremony, ambassador Sunjay read out a message sent by Indian president Ram Nath Kovind on the occasion on their Independence day.

In his message, President Ram noted the development achieved by India in the past 72 years, and highlighted the joint efforts with neighboring nations such as Maldives in bringing about said development.

He also thanked the Maldivian government for its efforts in strengthening relations with India since President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih became president last November, and highlighted some details of President Solih's trip to India last year and Indian PM Narendra Modi's visit to the Maldives this June.

President Ram also said Maldives and India share a close cultural and social relationship, and noted the Indian embassy's efforts in the endeavor to achieve the targets of both countries.
